Chandel is a foodie, hailing from Queens, Ny a city full of diverse food and culture. Her deep interest in food is rooted in her family. Family time was a reason to cook, eat, and bond. From a young age Chandel but known to her family and friends as Chan watched her grandparents, parents, and aunt flow so smoothly around the kitchen while creating dishes that would please the pickiest eaters’ pallet. The food business has always been apart of Chan’s family history as they have owned restaurants, grocery stores, ice cream shops and more in Harlem, NY. The family always found a way to connect through food. Growing up her grandmother who was born and raised in Charleston SC and then migrated to Harlem NY did not have much but she always made sure that everyone around her was well fed. From a young age Chan has always helped out in the kitchen and into her adult years has taken pride in providing meals to her friends, family, and community.  In her early college years she fed schoolmates as they would always pop up to her room to grab something to eat when the dining hall was closed or before heading to the event of the evening.

From the moment she received her passport she knew it was the perfect opportunity for her to expand her pallet. Food and travel being apart of her love language provided endless opportunities. Chan always geeks out on trying different dishes and experiencing different cultures while doing so. Yearning to know the backstory to the food, down to the intricate details on how the ingredients are grown, and transported, Chan always made it her business to take up a cooking class or explore the food scene in different countries which inspired her next culinary creation. Always dedicating time before a trip to research the best location in town for the signature dish which embodies the culture is a personal favorite of hers. Chan’s traveling for food!

With a natural talent for cooking and a passion for creating memorable dining experiences Chan Appetit was founded in 2020, born in the pandemic. Chan was determined to follow her heart and gave birth to Chan Appetit which is a full service Catering and Private Chef Company that specializes in mouthwatering Southern and Seafood Cuisine with a twist. Chan Appetit hosts a large variety of events from brunches, private dinners, cooking classes, and corporate events. My vision includes but is not limited to connecting with other foodies, teaching people that cooking does not have to be difficult, and exploring different cultures from a foodie lens.
